2008 - more AI lambs!! Our Rektor daughter BLW-810R gave us
twin Lundi ram lambs, one to keep and one to sell! Picture perfect
lambing; she is a great mother. Lundi has the absolute
best scores for improvement to the next generation so we were really
hoping to get some Lundi lambs this year, and we got two!

May 1, 2008, starts off as a great day! Udi yearling BLW-134T already has her lamb up and washed when I check the barn at 4:30 a.m.
Sired by our Thokki son BLW-920S, this newborn ram 251U carries some great lines.
Then our treasure Bianca, BLW-608N, lambed this morning around 7:00 a.m. giving us a white ram and a black frosted mouflon ewe with our Big Boy BLW-839G. Really nice lambs! Big, meaty and easily lambed. I love this ewe!

May 2, 2008 Another yearling has lambed, only two more to go. Our Rektor daughter BLW-131T lambed early this morning with a white ram lamb, 254U. He was sired by our horned cleanup ram BLW-920S. 920S is a Thokki son and 131T is also a Muli granddaughter and a Laekur great-granddaughter, so there are plenty of great AI lines here.

May 4, 2008 Tia lambed today, FFC-436R, and gave us two white ewe lambs with BLW-109T. Tia is a Muli daughter out of a Laekur daughter and 109T is a Visir son out of a Hunn granddaughter, so lots of good stuff happening here.

BLW-726P just gave us a lovely set of twin rams with BLW-109T. And
a lovely surprise is that the first born is a spotted black/gray!
I have wanted a spotted gray for years and was so happily surprised when
I realized that the ram has those gray sugar lips. So now we know
that BLW-109T, the sire, carries gray from his dam BLW-520M, and
apparently spotting from his sire Visir. So this ram lambs are
Visir grandsons!!

Mimi, BLW-834R has finally lambed. She has been walking around as
big as a coffee table and we have been waiting and waiting. But
she waited the full 145 days of gestation to have her triplets.
259U is a black gray ewe, 260U is a black gray ram and the third was a
mouflon, but sadly had been dead at least a few days before birth.
But Mimi is taking care of her other two, and they are beautiful!
The sire is our big boy, BLW-839R, and the lambs both carry solid,
moorit and spotting from Mimi.

Wow! Another first! We've discovered that BLW-109T not only
carries gray and spotting, now we know he carries moorit as well.
BLW-959S lambed today with BLW-109T and gave us two rams, a white who
must carry a recessive from Mom, and a moorit gray/badger. We've
never had a moorit gray badger born here and I'm pretty pleased to have
this one!

| May 9, 2008.
Our last bred yearling has lambed! Grimur daughter BLW-142T
just easily lambed, giving us a white ewe lamb with sire Thokkison
BLW-920S. She made it look easy!!

| May 13, 2008 -
a big day! Red, our old retired 11-year old ewe, gave us two
beautiful twins early this morning. We had held her back from
breeding, but our Visir son 109T did some fence jumping and so Red has
given us a white ewe and a black gray ram with him. Despite her
age and blindness she did a really nice job lambing and is mothering
well.
Then Sniffy, BLW-863R had her twins this afternoon, a black spotted ram and a black spotted ewe. They both are the spitting image of their sire, the Tigull son BLW-115T.
THEN, our Muli daughter BLW-911S had HER twins, both white, ewe and ram, with sire BLW-109T.
|
| May 14, 2008,
the chances of this result are almost too small to measure! Our
Kostur/Flekkur granddaughter, BLW-966S, gave us a beautiful set of twin
ewes with Visir son BLW-109T. A black gray ewe and a spotted,
moorit gray ewe. The chances for the black gray ewe are 1/8, the
chances of the spotted moorit gray ewe are 1/64, so the chances of
getting both togeather are 1/512! Whew!

LAMBING IS OVER!!! Millie, BLW-642N, started the day with her twin
rams, a black spotted and a white, with Claire watching over her
shoulder the entire time.
So just a few hours later, Claire, 202J, settled down and her twins with BLW-839R and gave us a black gray ram and a white ram.
The final count for the season. 76 lives births, two stillborn, and one miscarried set of twins. Of the 76 live lambs, we have 19 AI lambs and 57 farm bred. All of the farm bred lambs have some portion of AI in their background. There are 41 ewes and 35 rams; 40 are color and 36 are white. A good year! |
